Camshafts, Remove and install


Notice:


This operation is described for the camshafts for cylinders 1-3-5.
For removal and installation of the camshafts for cylinders 2-4-6, proceed similarly.

Important!


Note marking before dismantling camshaft bearing cover!
The camshaft must release evenly from the bearing seats.

Remove, Disconnect


Remove relevant camshaft pulleys - see operation "Camshaft Pulleys, Remove and Install".

Loosen camshaft bearing cover in illustrated sequence in spiral motion in stages of 1/2 to 1 turn. Disconnect camshaft bearing cover from cylinder head and remove camshaft.


Clean:


Clean all parts.

Inspect:


Check camshafts and bearing seats for wear and replace if necessary.

Install, Connect


Coat sliding surfaces of hydraulic valve lifters and camshafts wit MoS2 lubricating paste (grey). Apply adhesive sealing compound (black) to sealing surfaces (arrows) of guide bearing.
Insert camshafts and camshaft bearing cover.













Important!


Code numbers on camshaft bearing caps match those on cylinder head.

Install, Connect.


Attach camshaft bearing caps and tighten using spiral pattern in steps of 1/2 up to 1 turn in sequence illustrated - tightening torque 8 Nm / 6 Ibf. ft.

















Install,Connect.


Lightly coat sealing lip of seal ring with silicone grease (white). Press seal ring into camshaft bearing cap using KM-422 (1) - use fastening bolt and washer of camshaft pulley.
Install relevant camshaft pulleys - see operation "Camshaft Pulleys, Remove and Install".
