Piston with Con-rod, Remove and Install

Remove, Disconnect

Remove cylinder heads - see operation "Cylinder Heads, Remove and Install".

Remove oil baffle plate - see operation "Oil Baffle Plate. Remove and Install".

Mark sequence of con-rod bearings caps - bead (1) on con-rod bearing cap point towards flywheel side. Remove con-rod bearing cap from con-rod.

Important!

The mating surfaces of the cod-rods and the con-rod bearing caps form an individual fit and asa result must not be damaged or replaced under any circumstances. To avoid damage, do not lay con-rods ,and con-rod bearing caps on mating surfaces.

Remove, Disconnect

Remove combustion residue from upper part of cylinder bore. Use hammer handle to carefully push piston and con-rod upwards from cylinder bore.

Clean.

Clean and check all parts, replace if necessary.

Important!

For X 25 XE and Y 26 SE. the piston pin is pressed into the con-rod. Pushing out of the piston pin is not permitted If the piston, the piston pin or the con-rod is detective all above-mentioned parts must be replaced.

Install, Connect

Insert new piston rings with identification "TOP" on top in piston using piston ring pliers Note position of piston ring gaps!

1 2nd compression ring
2 Steel band ring (oil scraper ring - upper)
3 Steel band ring (oil scraper ring - lower)
4 1st compression ring
5 Intermediate ring (oil scraper ring)

Important!

Contact surfaces (1) and (2) of con-rod and con-rod bearing cap must be clean and in perfect condition If contact surfaces are damaged then the piston and con-rod must be replaced since perfect fit can no longer be ensured.

Clean contact surfaces with compressed air

Adjust

Set con-rod journal of crankshaft to BDC position before installation of the piston with con-rod and lightly coat with engine oil.

Lightly coat piston rings with engine oil and compress with piston ling compressor Carefully push pistons and con-rod into cylinder bore hole with hammer handle.

Important!

Note installation position - arrow (3) on piston head points to engine timing side.

Install, Connect

Note sequence of con-rod bearing caps.

Attach con-rod bearing cap to con-rod with new fastening bolts - bead (1) on con-rod bearing cap points to flywheel side -tightening torque 35 Nm . 26 Ibf. ft. + 45: + 15:.

Install oil I baffle plate - see operation "Oil Baffle Plate. Remove and Install".

Install cylinder heads - see operation "Cylinder Heads, Remove and Install"."
